RALEIGH, N.C. — The Virginia Union University men's basketball team, ranked 21
st in the nation by the NABC, earned an impressive road victory Tuesday night, defeating Shaw University
75–61 in CIAA action. With the win, the Panthers improved to
13–1 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play.
Virginia Union controlled the game from the opening minutes, taking a
35–26 halftime lead and maintaining momentum in the second half to secure the win in one of the CIAA's toughest road environments.
Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler commended his team's effort and execution:
"This was our first road conference game, and I thought we came out with a lot of energy in the first half," said Butler. "We did a great job defensively on one of the top offensive teams in the CIAA. Anytime you can get five guys in double figures and another one with eight points, it was a total team effort. I was very proud of the way they played in one of the toughest places to play in the conference — Shaw University."
