FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Virginia Union University men's basketball team saw its
13-game winning streak snapped Thursday night, falling 75–62 to Fayetteville State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) match up at Capel Arena.
The Panthers were unable to match Fayetteville State's physicality throughout the contest, as the Broncos controlled the tempo and built momentum in the second half to secure the win. Virginia Union showed flashes of offensive efficiency but struggled to establish consistency on both ends of the floor.
Tahj Harding led the Panthers with 17 points, while
Bobby Gardner added 16 points.
Malachi Dark rounded out the top scorers with 10 points. Fayetteville State was paced by Larry Howell, who finished with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds.
Coach's Quote
"You have to give Fayetteville credit tonight; they came out tonight and was the more physical team," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "We didn't come out with a sense of urgency tonight, and Fayetteville was a more disciplined team. We will go back to work and get back to the basics of playing Virginia Union basketball that got us to a 13-1 start."
