RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Union University sophomore
Timothy Butler has been named the
CIAA Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference.
Butler, a native of Windsor, Va., turned in an impressive performance in the weight throw at the
HBCU Showcase in New York, placing second overall with a mark of
15.60 meters (51 feet, 2.25 inches). He finished as the top competitor among CIAA athletes in the event, recording a strong early-season mark for the Panthers' throws group.
"Tim has worked incredibly hard both over the summer and this year on the weight throw and it shows," said VUU Assistant Track & Field Coach
Hannah Hinson. "He has a goal to make it to nationals, and with his determination, I have no doubt he will make it. As a coach, I couldn't be prouder of him."
The honor recognizes Butler's continued development and leadership in the field events as Virginia Union opens the indoor track and field season.
