Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VUU Sweeps Johnson & Wales, Downs Ferrum 3-1

Ferrum, Va. — September 6, 2025 — The Virginia Union University women's volleyball team turned in a strong performance at the Ferrum Tri-Match on Saturday, defeating Johnson & Wales in straight sets before closing the day with a hard-fought four-set win over host Ferrum.

Match 1: VUU 3, Johnson & Wales 0
The Panthers set the tone early against Johnson & Wales, cruising to a 3–0 sweep. VUU's service game and steady ball control kept the Wildcats off balance, while the Panthers' front row dominated at the net to seal the win in straight sets.

Match 2: VUU 3, Ferrum 1
In the second match of the day, Virginia Union showed resilience against a determined Ferrum squad. After taking the opening two sets, the Panthers stumbled in the third as Ferrum made the match 2–1. VUU regrouped quickly, however, tightening up defensively and regaining offensive rhythm to capture the next set and earn a 3–1 victory.

Coach's Perspective
Head coach Anetra Sims praised her team's perseverance and unity after the doubleheader sweep:
"Through all of the adversity we faced today, my girls dug deep and showed mental toughness and played together like a family! Virginia Union's volleyball team are amazing young women!" Sims said.
Virginia Union's Madison Hill, a junior from Laurel, Md., who is majoring in Finance, led the Lady Panthers with 20 kills this weekend.

VUU's Leilah Beasley, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., led the Lady Panthers on defense with 24 digs.

Virginia Union will now open the 2025 home season when the Lady Panthers meet Emory & Henry University at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
