RICHMOND, VA — Virginia Union University's volleyball team dropped its home opener to Emory & Henry University, falling in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, 25-21 on Tuesday, September 9, at Barco-Stevens Hall.

Ashlee Franklin led the Lady Panthers with seven kills, while freshman setter Zinnia Pickett tallied 12 assists. Madison Hill was a defensive presence at the net with four blocks, and Leilah Beasley sparked the team from the service line with three aces while also pacing VUU's back row with 13 digs.

Despite the loss, VUU Head Volleyball Coach Anetra Sims praised her team's effort in front of a packed home crowd.
"We had a strong turnout tonight, and while the large crowd may have been a bit overwhelming for our team, the girls demonstrated resilience and pushed through," Sims said. "Although we fell just short, we remain committed to working hard and continuing to build a competitive program."
The Lady Panthers now turn their attention to the WVWC Tournament in Buckhannon, W.V. VUU opens play on Friday, September 12, against host West Virginia Wesleyan College at 2:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. matchup with Ursuline College. On Saturday, September 13, the Lady Panthers face Lock Haven University at 10:00 a.m. before wrapping up tournament play against Belmont Abbey College at 1:00 p.m.
