The Virginia Union University women's track and field team competed in their third outdoor meet at Norfolk State University on Saturday, April 5.  The squad showcased an excellent team performance! Here are some highlights:

    •    Jade Lane placed 2nd in the javelin throw with a personal best of 37.37m. She also recorded a season-best long jump of 5.42m, finishing 3rd in that event.
    •    Toni Middlebrooks achieved a personal best in the 800m dash, securing 3rd place with a time of 2:28.27. She also ran a season-best 400m dash in 58.52 seconds.
    •    Abijah Jepkemboi ran a personal best in the 1500m with a time of 5:16.82 and placed 3rd in the 5,000m, finishing in 20:41.
    •    Jailyn Johnson placed 5th overall in the 400m dash with a personal best of 59.43 seconds and secured 4th place in the 800m dash.
    •    Christal Rolack achieved personal bests in both the 100m and 200m dashes, recording times of 12.12 seconds and 25.48 seconds, respectively.

Notably, Christal's 100m time of 12.12 seconds ranks her 4th in the conference. After battling injuries for two years, her performance is a testament to her resilience and determination.

Additionally, Abijah's recent achievement of breaking the school's outdoor season record in the 5,000m is commendable.

"All our female athletes performed well, and we couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments," said Head VUU Track and Field Coach Franck Charles.  "Their dedication and hard work continue to elevate our team's success."

Virginia Union will next compete at the University of Mount Olive Meet to be held April 11-12 in Mount Olive, N.C.
