The Virginia Union University women's track and field team had the opportunity to compete in their fourth outdoor meet of the season at Christopher Newport University.
  •  Â
Toni Middlebrooks broke the school record in the 800m dash with a time of 2:22.77, improving from her previous time of 2:28.27. She also ran a season-best in the 400m dash, clocking 58.06 seconds.
  •  Â
Jade Lane placed 2nd in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.53m. She also recorded a second strong performance with another season-best jump of 5.42m,Â
  •  Â
Kayla Lee came in 2nd overall in the 100m dash and 3rd overall in the 200m dash.
  •   Our 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams both finished 1st place overall.
Notably, while
Toni Middlebrooks might not be having the standout season she had as a freshman, trust me — the job is far from done. We all know how challenging it is to stay consistent at a high level, but with hard work and a coaching staff that believes in every one of our athletes, anything is possible.
"Overall, I feel our ladies performed very well at the CNU meet," said VUU Head Track and Field Coach Franck Charles. "Congratulations to
Jade Lane for her impressive performance in the long jump Jade truly can accomplish anything she puts her mind to. I firmly believe she has what it takes to finish at the top of our conference."
The women's team will next compete in the Penn Relays on April 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa.
