Virginia Union University volleyball delivered an electric five-set victory on Thursday night at Barco-Stevens Hall, defeating Bowie State 3–2 (19–25, 26–24, 22–25, 25–20, 15–11) in front of an energized home crowd of 305 on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
The win lifts the Lady Panthers to
8–8 overall (3–3 CIAA), while the Bulldogs fall to
6–12 (3–3 CIAA).
Madison Hill led the offensive charge with
16 kills and a .293 hitting percentage, while
Aireanna Johnson added
12 kills and 18 digs to complete a standout double-double performance.
Alana Simmons provided a balanced effort with
nine kills, four service aces, and 11 digs.
Senior setter
Ashlee Franklin orchestrated the offense with
37 assists and five aces, while libero
Leilah Beasley anchored the defense with
17 digs.
As a team, Virginia Union finished with
53 kills,
14 service aces, and
nine total blocks, holding Bowie State to a .135 hitting percentage across the match.
"Tonight, our girls showed tremendous heart, dedication, and teamwork to secure this win," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Anetra Sims. The Lady Panthers will return to the court on
Friday, October 10, when they take on
Ferrum College at 6:00 p.m. in Barco-Stevens Hall.
