Virginia Union University's
Jonathan King scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and snagged three steals, but Concord University defeated the Panthers 63-60 on Monday, February 12, in Athens, W.V.
VUU's
Tahj Harding led the team with 21 points in the win.
"I thought the guys fought the entire game against one of the best teams in the region tonight," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "When you're playing on the road against a good team like Concord you almost have to play perfect basketball down the stretch to pull out the win, and we missed a few opportunities to extend the lead that we couldn't capitalize on late in the game. We have to get a few more guys to step up to make plays to take some of the pressure off Tahj to have to score big numbers for us to win."
Virginia Union will now travel to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14.
