Virginia Union University's
Jonathan King had 18 points and six rebounds as VUU downed Bluefield State University 89-77 on Saturday, February 10, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Jordan Gibson also scored 18 points while
Tahj Harding added 15 points in the win.
The win gave Virginia Union sole possession of second place in the Northern Division of the CIAA. Lincoln University of Pennsylvania leads the division with a 6-1 divisional record while VUU is one game behind with a 5-2 record.
"I thought we had a great first half defensively," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Our only senior
Jordan Gibson came out and really gave us a spark on senior day. We came out in the second half very flat and allowed Bluefield State to hang around.
Jonathan King was solid as well on both ends of the court and really is starting to come on in these last couple of games. We really need to be locked in these next couple of weeks leading into the CIAA tournament if we want to make a run in the tournament."
Virginia Union will now face Concord University at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 12, in Athens, W.V.
