Virginia Union University's
Jonathan King scored a season-high 14 points while pulling down a team-high five rebounds, but the University of Charleston defeated the Panthers 79-63 on Wednesday, November 20, in Charleston, W.V.
VUU's
Malachi Dark added 12 points and teammate
Kennard Wyche dished off four assists in the game.
"You have to give Charleston credit for shooting the lights out tonight," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Anytime you can shoot 54 percent from the field and 55 percent from the three-point line enroute to making 16 three-pointers is tough to beat. We came out very flat on both ends of the floor tonight but managed to stay close at the end of the first half. In the second half we never got anything consistently going on the offensive end and our defense could not slow the hot three-point shooting of Charleston in the second half."
Virginia Union will now travel to Charlotte, N.C., to face Johnson C. Smith University at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, November 26.
