Madison Hill had 10 blocks as VUU defeated Fayetteville State University 3-1 at the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup, held on October 5-6 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Hill also had 11 kills while teammate
Alana Simmons had 12 kills.
Simmons also had 12 kills and nine defensive digs in VUU's 3-0 win over Livingstone College in the roundup.
Virginia Union lost to Shaw University 3-0 in the Lady Panthers' final game of the 2-day roundup.
"We fought hard this weekend, going 2-1 overall, but the real highlight was breaking a 9-year streak by finally beating a Fayetteville State team that had always seemed just out of reach," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Danielle Perry. "The determination and grit we showed out there was incredible, and it felt amazing to finally see all our effort pay off!"
VUU will now travel to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University at 6:00 p.m. On Thursday, October 10.
