The Virginia Union University golf team competed in the Bluefield State University's Men's Invitational Golf tournament on October 21st & 22nd, 2024. The tournament was contested at Fincastle Golf Course. Fincastle was designed in 1965; Fincastle has built a reputation for its quick greens and the precise shot placements that are required. Golfers will experience a variety of unique shots as they play a round on Fincastle's manicured fairways and greens. There were a blend of open holes through the lower part of the course during the first nine before transitioning to a more tree lined route on the second nine that scales up the mountain. Fincastle is a Par 70, 6, 357 yard layout. It was a challenge for all golfers during the 36 hole tournament. There was a total of eleven teams competing in the Men's Invitational.
VUU Team scoring was led by 1st Year Grad Student,
Joseph Graham who finished Tied for 1st Place with a score of 143 (74/69) followed by Sophomore
Joseph Boone finished Tied 6th with a score of 145 (70/75), followed Sophomore
Brady Wood finished 26th with a score of 156 (78/78), followed by Ben Nicholson, Sophomore finished 26th , with a score of 156, (77/79), followed 2nd Year Grad Student
Zaccheus Spann finished 26th with a score of 156 (74/82). Graham had an excellent tournament finishing Tied for 1st of 70 D2 golfers. He lost on the third playoff to a birdie to finish second.
