Virginia Union University's Alana Simmons had 12 kills and five service aces, but Bluefield State University defeated the Lady Panthers 3-1 on Monday, September 30, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Jade Lane had four blocks while Ashlee Franklin had 29 assists.  

Virginia Union's Aireanna Johnson led the Lady Panthers with 14 defensive digs.

"I was proud on how we fought adversity tonight," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Danielle Perry.  "There are a few things that we need to work on, like finishing the game and how we need to fine-tune some things so we're prepared for the CIAA roundup this weekend.

Virginia Union will play Shaw University and Livingstone College on Saturday, October 5, and will face Fayetteville State University on Sunday, October 6, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
