Hinton Sets Personal Best at VCU Meet

Virginia Union University's Jalen Hinton set a personal best in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds and then placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.94 seconds at the VCU Invitational, held on Sunday, January 7, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Hinton is currently second in the CIAA with his time in the 200-meters. Additionally, he is fifth in the CIAA conference in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.90 seconds.

VUU's Toni MiddleBrooks placed third place overall in the 400-meters, achieving her best collegiate time of 1:00.42.

Virginia Union's Alpha Bald placed fifth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.24. Bald currently stands fourth overall in the CIAA.

VUU's Spencer White placed fourth overall in the 800-meters with a time of 2:07.58, an improvement of five seconds over his previous best.

The Panthers' Zack Jones is ranked fifth overall in the CIAA with a throw of 14.29.

"The VCU Indoor Invitational meet was a fantastic way to kick off the 2024 season for us," said VUU Track & Field Coach Franck Charles.  "We witnessed many impressive marks, and we're confident that there's room for improvement as we progress through the track season. It's encouraging to see everyone making strides, dropping their times and buying into our program, as we continue to improve our process."

Virginia Union will now travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the Mondo College Invitational, to be held on Saturday, January 13.
