Virginia Union University's
Jonathan King scored 22 points and had seven rebounds, but Shaw University defeated the Panthers 73-66 on Saturday, January 6, in Raleigh, N.C.
VUU's
Tahj Harding added 11 points in the game.
"I've been blessed to have had an experienced basketball team the last couple of years, but this year we are new, and we are relying on freshman to play a lot of minutes for us right now," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "I thought we played hard today, but the turnovers and missed free throws continue to keep us from pulling games out down the stretch.  Once we correct those mistakes as a unit, we will have a chance to be a factor in the CIAA."
Virginia Union now travels to Orangeburg, S.C., to face Claflin University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9.
