Virginia Union University's
Jakobe Williams scored 17 points as VUU downed Shepherd University 66-59 on Tuesday, November 21, in Shepherdstown, W.V.
VUU's
Tahj Harding scored 14 points while teammate
Jonathan Salazar added 11 points in the win.
Virginia Union's
Joshua Caine led the Panthers on the boards with seven rebounds.
"Coming off a tough game against Winston Salem, I thought the guys did a great job bouncing back and getting a good win on the road against a solid Shepherd team," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Our goal is to hold teams to under 60 points, and we did a great job on the defensive end today. I was impressed with the play of
Jonathan Salazar in the first half. He really got us going early and allowed us to take the lead at the half.
Tahj Harding and
Jakobe Williams continued to do a good job of scoring with the ball throughout the game, and they made some key shots to put the game away down the stretch."
Virginia Union will now open the home season when it meets Fayetteville State University in a non-conference match-up at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
