Virginia Union University's volleyball team defeated Mary Baldwin University 3-1 and then downed Ferrum College 3-0 in a season-opening tri-match on Saturday, September 3, in Staunton, Va.
The two wins marked the first time a VUU volleyball team has started the season 2-0 since the 2016 Lady Panther team started 3-0.
In the opener, VUU's
Amilex Lopez-Ayala led the Lady Panthers with 14 kills while teammate
Jade Lane had four service aces.
In the second match, Lopez-Ayala led the team with nine kills and four service aces.
"Our Lady Panthers played hard today with both their effort and discipline on the court," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach
Joe Sullivan. "We look forward to using this weekend as a building block to become a more cohesive unit in preparations for future battles!"
Virginia Union will now travel to Bluefield, W.V., to face Bluefield State College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7.
