Virginia Union University's Ashlee Franklin had 19 assists, but Shaw University defeated the Lady Panthers 25-10, 26-24, 25-16 on Monday, September 19, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Aireanna Johnson led the Lady Panthers with seven kills while teammate Amilex Lopez-Ayala had 11 defensive digs.

"Focus will be a huge emphasis this week on read and speed," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Joe Sullivan.

Virginia Union will now travel to Bowie, Md., to take part in the first CIAA Volleyball Round-Up.  The Lady Panthers will face Winston-Salem State University at 11:00 a.m. and then face Saint Augustine's University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24.  VUU will then face Johnson C. Smith University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25.
