Trio of Lady Panthers Earn All-CIAA Honors

Virginia Union University's Amilex Lopez-Ayala was named Second Team All-CIAA while freshmen teammates Aireanna Johnson and Ashlee Franklin were named to the CIAA All-Rookie Volleyball Team, the CIAA announced on Monday, November 7.

Lopez-Ayala, a senior from Guayama, Puerto Rico, majoring in Entrepreneurial Management, made the Second Team as an outside hitter, led the Lady Panthers with 270 kills on the season.

Johnson, a freshman from Fort Worth, Tex., and majoring in Psychology, had 129 kills and 18 service aces for VUU this season.

Franklin, a freshman setter from Woodbridge, Va., majoring in criminology, led the Lady Panthers with 478 assists.  

"I'm really proud of all our Lady Panthers that made the All-CIAA team," said VUU Head Coach Joe Sullivan.   "Both Ashlee and Aireanna have been huge contributors to our success this season competing like seasoned collegiate athletes and Ami has been an absolute weapon both defensively and offensively. I am so proud of all of them and proud to call them Panthers!"
