Virginia Union University's Robert Osborne scored a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Panthers downed Shippensburg University 60-56 on the first day of the Trojan Conference Challenge on Friday, November 11, in Petersburg, Va.
VUU's
Raemaad Wright scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds while teammate Keleaf Tate added seven points.
The win marked the first time VUU had defeated Shippensburg since 2009.
"This was a big win for us," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "We've been playing Shippensburg for the last five or six years and they've been getting us. We've been having some 20-win teams, but we've always struggled in the first game of the season against Shippensburg. They're a great basketball team. They're going to be an NCAA Tournament team. But our goal today was to get this one. If we got this one, then we'll have the opportunity to start the season 2-0."
VUU will play Millersville University at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, on the second day of the Trojan Conference Challenge in Petersburg, Va.
