Virginia Union University's Amilex Lopez-Ayala had 13 kills and three service aces, but Virginia State University defeated the Lady Panthers 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 on Monday, October 17, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

VUU's Ashlee Franklin had 25 assists and four blocks while teammate Maysun Creery recorded 20 defensive digs in the match.

"We had improved serving and ball control, but a lack of focus in other areas cost us dearly tonight," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Joe Sullivan.  "Hopefully we can regroup and learn how to focus properly in preparation for the finish to our season!"

Virginia Union will now play Bowie State University at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
