Virginia Union University's men's basketball team got its first win of the season when the Panthers downed Mansfield University 70-61 on the second day of the Trojan Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, November 13, at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.

Keleaf Tate led the Panthers with 16 points while teammate
Jordan Peebles added 10 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Virginia Union was hot from beyond the three-point arc, hitting 11 of 23 three-point attempts. Tate led the way with four treys.

As a team, VUU shot 51% from the field while holding Mansfield to just 36.7%.Â

The win evened Virginia Union's record at 1-1 while Mansfield fell to 0-2.

Virginia Union now travels to Uncasville, Conn., to participate in the Chris Paul HBCU Classic. The Panthers will face West Virginia State University at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, and will then face either Winston-Salem State University or Morehouse College on Tuesday, November 24.
