Thirty-three Virginia Union University student-athletes have been honored by the Division II Athletics Directors Association for having stellar grade point averages, it was announced on Thursday, August 27.

The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 13th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

E. Lee Coble, VUU Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athletes Academic Support. "They truly exemplify the phrase "Student-Athlete". They perform in the classroom and in their field of play."

In total, there were 15,215 student-athletes from 200 institutions recognized for the 2019-20 Academic Achievement Awards. These numbers shattered the records for highest number of participating institutions and the largest number of student-athletes being nominated since the award program's inception.
