Virginia Union University's
Terrell Leach and
Jordan Peebles both scored 16 points to lead VUU to a hard-fought 67-65 win over Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, February 8, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Leach's 16 points now gives him a season average of 23.3 points per game. It also keeps Leach in the lead in scoring in the CIAA, just ahead of Ray Rogers of Livingstone College, who is now averaging 23.0 points per game.
VUU's
Raemaad Wright recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Virginia Union's
Tyriek Railey rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
"This was a good team win for us. We knew coming in they would try and double team Terrell," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "I thought the guys did a good job stepping up and made plays when we needed to. Â
Jordan Peebles,
Tyriek Railey and
Raemaad Wright did a great job rebounding today. Terrell and Tyriek didn't shoot the ball well from the three point line but Terrell was tied for the most assists with
Rasheed Gatling (5) and he made some clutch free throws to get us the win."
The win raised VUU's record to 14-10 overall and 7-4 in the CIAA. Elizabeth City State fell to 12-12 overall and 5-9 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union now travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Livingstone College at 7:30 p.m on Monday, February 10.
