Virginia Union University's
Terrell Leach, the CIAA scoring leader, scored 32 points to lead VUU to a 95-64 win over Livingstone College on Monday, February 10, in Salisbury, N.C.
Â
This is the seventh game this season where Leach has scored 30 or more points. He's also scored 30 or higher in four of the Panthers' last five games.
Â
VUU's
Tyriek Railey also added 23 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the win.
Â
"This was a very good road win tonight for us," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. Â "We always talk about playing great defense, but tonight I thought we got off to a great start offensively with
Tyriek Railey and
Terrell Leach leading the way. They shot lights out from the three point line. When we can get both of them scoring the basketball like that it's very hard for Terrell to see a lot of double teams.   Our focus coming in to today's game was to slow down Roger Ray and there explosive offensive team. I thought defensively we were just as good in the second half as our offense. We got a chance to be really good in the tournament when we play well on both ends of the court."
Â
Leach is averaging 23.7 points per game while Ray is close behind with an average of 23.0 points per game in the race for the CIAA scoring crown.
Â
The win raised VUU's record to 15-10 overall and 8-4 in the CIAA. Virginia Union is currently in second place in the Northern Division of the CIAA with three games left to play in the regular season.
Â
Livingstone fell to 12-13 overall and 5-9 in the CIAA.
Â
Virginia Union now returns home to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
