Virginia Union University's
Terrell Leach scored a game-high 28 points, but Saint Augustine's University hung on for a 79-78 win over Virginia Union in a non-conference match-up on Monday, January 6, in Raleigh, N.C.
Leach also tied for high rebounding honors with
Raemaad Wright by grabbing nine rebounds. Â
Wright also scored 20 points.
VUU's
Keshon Tabb rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points.
"I thought the guys fought hard all the way to the end. We had an opportunity to win at the end but fell short," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "We knew these road games coming up are going to be tough. I thought Terrell and Raemaad did a good job keeping us within reach of Saint Augustine's, but the Falcons made key plays down the stretch to get the win."
The win snapped a seven-game Panther winning streak.
The loss dropped VUU to 9-5 while Saint Augustine's is now 4-8.
Virginia Union now travels to Orangeburg, S.C., to face Claflin University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9.
