Virginia Union University's Terrell Leach scored 16 points, but Elizabeth City State University defeated the Panthers 74-72 on Wednesday, January 22, in Elizabeth City, N.C.
 
VUU's Jordan Peebles added 15 points while Charles Tart III scored a career-high 11 points in the game.
 
"We definitely didn't play well defensively and made too many costly turnovers late to get the win," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "When you're on the road you have to be locked in for 40 minutes, and Elizabeth City made one more play than us to get the win.  I thought Jordan Peebles fought through being injured early and kept us in the game in the second half.  We have to be more consistent and disciplined to win these close games."
 
VUU's Raemaad Wright led the Panthers with five rebounds.
 
The loss dropped VUU to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the CIAA.  Elizabeth City State is now 11-8 overall and 4-4 in CIAA play.
 
Virginia Union now travels to Charlotte, N.C., to face Johnson C. Smith University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25.
