Virginia Union University's
Terrell Leach scored a team-high 22 points, but Winston-Salem State University defeated the Panthers 63-61 on Saturday, January 11, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
VUU's
Micah Campbell added 10 points while teammate
Jordan Peebles pulled down a six rebounds in the game.
"I thought we did a good job defensively, holding Winston Salem to 63 points," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Unfortunately we struggled offensively with only getting two players to score in double figures. We have to be more consistent on both ends to pull out these close games. The last three games have been loses by a total of four points."
The loss dropped VUU's record to 9-7 overall. It was also the Panthers' first loss in CIAA play, with VUU now being 3-1. Winston-Salem State is now 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15.
