Defense Lifts VUU to 63-50 Win

Virginia Union University's Will Jenkins had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as VUU downed Winston-Salem State University 63-50 on Monday, February 4, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The game marked the third straight contest where Virginia Union has held its opponents to 60 points or less.

Jenkins, a junior forward from Baltimore, Md., hit seven of 18 shots from the field in the win.

"This was a good win for us," said VUU Head Coach Jay Butler.  "I thought defensively we were awesome tonight.  This was a total team effort on defense.  Anytime you can hold a team to 50 points, that's definitely a great night."

VUU's Terrell Leach added 14 points while teammate Darian Peterson scored in double-figures for the second straight game with 11 points.

The win raised Virginia Union's record to 13-9 overall and 9-3 in the CIAA.  Winston-Salem State fell to 9-11 overall and 4-8 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now prepares to face Piedmont International University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
