Virginia Union University's
Jordan Peebles blocked a shot and
Raemaad Wright grabbed the rebound to preserve a dramatic 74-73 win over Piedmont International University on Wednesday, February 6, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Â
"You've got to tip your hat to Piedmont," said VUU Head Coach
Jay Butler. "They came out and played a whale of a basketball game. They shot the ball well and were definitely well-prepared. Our guys fought and fought and were able to pull it out at the end."
Â
Virginia Union's
Terrell Leach scored a team-high 21 points while Wright added 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Â
"This game shouldn't have been that close," said Wright. "We came out and played to our level of competition, but we ended up getting the win, so overall it was a good game tonight."
Â
The win raised VUU's record to 14-9 on the season while Piedmont International fell to 9-14.
Â
Virginia Union now faces Virginia State University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
