Jordan Peebles blocked a shot as time expired to preserve a hard-fought 78-76 win over Shepherd University on Wednesday, December 4, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Peebles had four blocks to go with his 22 points as VUU recorded its third straight win.
Virginia Union's
Terrell Leach led the Panthers with 30 points while teammate
Raemaad Wright had a game-high 12 rebounds, including 11 on the defensive boards.
"I thought we gave up too many points in the first half, but in the second half we held them to only 30 points and that was the key for us to get the win," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "Terrell did a great job of getting to the basket and getting to the foul line in the second half.
Jordan Peebles and
Raemaad Wright continue to do a great job on the boards and finding ways to give us some much needed scoring. I was very happy for the freshmen
Kaylen Vines and Charles Tart. They gave us a huge boost defensively in the second half."
The win raised VUU's record to 5-4 overall while Shepherd fell to 3-4.
Virginia Union now returns to CIAA play when the Panthers face Fayetteville State University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
