Virginia Union University's men's basketball team overcame a 56-53 deficit with just under nine minutes left to play to down Claflin University 76-71 on Monday, November 25, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
Â
VUU's
Terrell Leach led the Panthers in scoring with 28 points while
Jordan Peebles recorded a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Â
"We wanted to go into the Thanksgiving break with a good solid win," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach
Jay Butler. "I think, defensively, we continue to get better and it's giving us a chance to win these close games at home.Â
Jordan Peebles was unbelievable on the boards tonight. He's been our most consistent player so far this season.Â
Terrell Leach was fantastic in the second half scoring the basketball but he was equally impressive on the defensive end with a team high four steals. I was happy for
Micah Campbell getting his first opportunity to play this year. He did a good job offensively and defensively with a perfect 2-2 from the floor and 4-4 at the free throw line to go with five rebounds and three blocks."
Â
The win raised VUU's overall record to 3-4 and kept the Panthers undefeated in the CIAA at 2-0. Claflin fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now travels to Bluefield, W.V., to face Bluefield State College at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 2.
