Volleyball Downs Elizabeth City State 3-1

Virginia Union University overcame a 1-0 game deficit to down Elizabeth City State University 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20 in the home opener for the volleyball team on Wednesday, October 10, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
 
VUU's A'rmaria Wright collected 30 assists and two service aces in the win.
 
Freshman phenom Essence Poteat had 17 kills and a game high 20 defensive digs.  VUU's Kamryn Young had 10 kills while Akira Baker had 18 digs.
 
VUU's Jamaica Adams had 16 digs and Wright had 10 digs.
 
"Despite a slow start in the first set, the Lady Panthers worked hard to stay focused and secure the win," said VUU Head Volleyball Coach Renesha Johnson.
 
The win raised Virginia Union's CIAA record to 4-2, putting the Lady Panthers 1/2 game behind Virginia State University for first place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.
 
Elizabeth City State fell to 2-4 in the CIAA.
 
VUU now plays Bowie State University at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
