Virginia Union University's
Ambryanna Moore and
Jada Starling had seven kills apiece as the Lady Panthers gained their first win of 2018 by defeating Lees-McRae College 27-25, 25-17, 25-18 on the opening day of the Francis Marion/Coker College Invitational on Friday, August 24, in Hartsville, S.C.
Starling, a 5-8 freshman from Dallas, Tex., also led VUU with two service aces.
She also tied for the team high with
Taurie Magee with four blocks in the match.
VUU's
Minne Masoe led the Lady Panthers with 17 assists while teammate
Jamaica Adams led the team 14 defensive digs.
In the opening match of the day, Starling again led the Lady Panthers with seven kills despite Emmanuel College defeating VUU 25-17, 25-12, 25-9.
Masoe had eight assists while Adams recorded nine digs.
VUU is now 1-1 on the season and will face Anderson University at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, and will then face Queens (N.C.) University at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, in Florence, S.C.
