Virginia Union University's men's basketball team overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Lock Haven University on the second day of the Wolf Bus Lines Classic on Sunday, November 11, in Shippensburg, Va.
VUU's Will Jenkins led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
"This was a good bounce back win after a tough loss on Saturday night," said VUU Head Coach
Jay Butler. "I was happy at the way the guys stayed together and kept fighting to the end. We made plays offensively and defensively down the stretch to secure the win."
Virginia Union's
Jemal Smith and
Jordan Thornton scored 11 points apiece in the win. Smith also dished off nine assists.
"I thought
Jemal Smith and
Jordan Thornton had a great weekend," Butler said. "
Demarius Pitts also continues to get better each game in scoring for us."
Pitts scored 10 points against Lock Haven, adding to the 20 points he scored against Shippensburg on the first day of the Classic.
Thornton and Pitts were both chosen for the Wolf Bus Lines All-Tournament Team.
The win evened VUU's record at 1-1 while Lock Haven fell to 0-2.
Virginia Union now travels to Shepherdstown, W.V., to face Shepherd University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13.
