Virginia Union University's
Demarius Pitts scored 20 points, but Shippensburg University spoiled the Panthers' 2018-19 season opener 65-60 on the first day of the Wolf Bus Lines Classic on Saturday, November 10, in Shippensburg, Pa.
Pitts hit nine of 17 shots from the field in the game.
Shippensburg surged to a 27-18 halftime lead before the Panthers battled back in the second half.
"I thought we got off to a slow start in the first half and that allowed Shippensburg to get the lead," said VUU head coach
Jay Butler. "We responded in the second half and took the lead, but too many turnovers down the stretch cost us the game."
VUU's
Jordan Thornton led the Panthers on the boards with nine rebounds while teammate
Jemal Smith led VUU with five assists.
Virginia Union is now 0-1 on the season and will face Lock Haven University at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, on the second day of the Wolf Bus Lines Classic in Shippensburg, Pa.
