Virginia Union University's
Luis Nieves bested all runners, including those from Division I Virginia Commonwealth University, to capture top individual honors at the VUU Invite Cross-Country Meet, held on Friday, October 13, at Bryan Park in Richmond, Va.
Nieves finished the eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:06.4, beating Bryce Catlett of VCU by one/tenth of one second.
VCU won the meet with a team total of 26 points. Virginia State University was second with 41 points while VUU was third with 86 points.
Chowan University was fourth with 90 points while Bowie State University was fifth with 91 points.

Charles Whitehead was 14th with a time of 31:00.0 while teammate Tyrel Harrison was 22nd with a time of 32:04.6.

Jeremiah Wallace was 24th with a time of 32:29.4 and VUU'sÂ
Jordan Bolden was 25th with a time of 35:16.2.
VUU now readies itself for the CIAA Championships, to be held on Thursday, October 26, in Salem, Va.
