Box Score 3 Virginia Union University's women's volleyball team won two of three matches in the first-ever CIAA Volleyball Round-Up hosted by VUU by beating Livingstone College 25-20, 25-12, 25-20 on Saturday, September 13, and then by beating Johnson C. Smith University 23-25, 25-17, 25-17 and 28-26 on Sunday, September 14.
The Saturday matches were played at U-Turn Sports Academy in Richmond, Va., while Sunday's match was held in storied Barco-Stevens Hall on the VUU campus.
The only loss suffered by the Lady Panthers was when Winston-Salem State University defeated VUU 25-12, 25-14, 25-18 on Saturday, September 13.
VUU's
Esha Atkins collected 68 assists during the Round-Up, including 36 in VUU's win over Johnson C. Smith.
Virginia Union's
Kristin Madison had 35 kills in three matches, including a team-high 18 kills against the Golden Bulls.
VUU's
Ellie Parsons had 31 defensive digs, with 16 coming against Johnson C. Smith.
The wins give VUU a 3-5 record overall and 2-1 in CIAA play, putting the Lady Panthers in a tie for second place in the CIAA Northern Division with Elizabeth City State University.
Virginia Union now travels to Lincoln (Pa.) University to face the Lady Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, in Lincoln University, Pa.
