Virginia Union University's men's cross-country placed ninth at the 2011 CIAA Cross-Country Championships, held on October 20 in Cary, N.C.
The event was won by Shaw University with 44 team points. Winston-Salem State University was second with 47 points while Saint Augustine's College was third with 75 points. Virginia State University was fourth with 90 points and Lincoln University was fifth with 123 points. Johnson C. Smith University was sixth 163 points and Fayetteville State University was seventh with 166 points. Bowie State was eighth with 178 points and VUU was ninth with 225 points. Elizabeth City State University was 10th with 299 points and Livingstone College was 11th with 315 points.

Hakeem Fields was the highest Panther finisher, completing the 8,000-meter course with a time of 29:29.8 while
Deion Dickens was 40th with a time of 30:14.4.

Andrew Njoku was 45th with a time of 30:33.6 and
Wesley Arthur was 49th with a time of 31:50.4. Virginia Union's
Marcus Dean rounded out the scoring by finishing 61st with a time of 33:45.1.
The team wore pink ribbons in support of breast cancer awareness and in support of Sophia Womack, sister of VUU head coach
Wilbert D. Johnson and a breast cancer survivor.
