McGlone-English Passes for Three TDs vs. Shaw

Virginia Union University's Ares McGlone-English passed for 233 yards and three touchdowns, but Shaw University proved too much for the Panthers, downing VUU 57-27 on September 4 in Raleigh, N.C.

McGlone-English completed 15 of 34 passes, including two touchdown strikes to Matias Parker and another to Trevon Winston.

Wide receiver Joseph Jean-Pierre caught eight passes for 151 yards.

Shaw jumped on the scoreboard first when quarterback Kevin Atkins hit Tyrone Bolden with a 13-yard pass at 9:20 in the first quarter.

VUU's first score came at the 8:52 mark in the second quarter when McGlone-English scampered in from four yards out.

VUU has a bye week on September 11, and then stages it's home opener on September 18 against Lincoln University.


CLAW MARKS:  McGlone-English became the first VUU quarterback to pass for over 200 yards since Lamar Little passed for 247 yards against Lenoir-Rhyne on August 30, 2007...Parker returned three kicks for 72 yards...Punter Martin House had four punts for 139 yards, including a 60-yard punt...House's 60-yard punt was the first Panther punt of 60 yards or more since Wayne Motley recorded a 66-yard punt against Livingstone College on September 15, 2007...Adidias Arrington and Jason Boyce led the Panthers with 10 tackles apiece...Kavon Brown had the lone sack for VUU...Sophomore Brian Gurley pulled down the Panthers' first interception of 2010...The 57 points Shaw scored were the most given up by a Panther team since Fayetteville State scored 58 points against VUU on September 4, 2004...VUU has a bye week next week, with the Panthers' next game being their home opener on September 18 against Lincoln University in Hovey Field.
