Coach Kevin Dent is an alumnus of Virginia Union University, class of 1997, and returns to Virginia Union, as a coach this time. He enters his first season at Virginia Union University and will serve as the Assistant Offensive Line coach. He is coming from Highland Springs High School, where he served as the Offensive Line coach and Run Game coordinator.
Coach Dent is a native to Richmond, VA. He graduated from Monacan High school. He received his bachelor’s degree in Math/Computer Science from Virginia Union University in 1997. He was a 3-year starter for the Virginia Union Panthers where he won the 1996 Burger Scholar Athlete of the Year award as well as designated an HBCU Football Athlete to Watch. Coach Dent also received multiple Player of the Week awards from Virginia Union, and he was invited to the 1997 NFL Regional Combine. Coach Dent went on to receive his master’s degree in Math and Material Science Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1999. Coach Dent is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, INC.
Coach Dent did not catch the coaching bug until later in his professional career. He saw his sons playing the game he loved so he quickly wanted to instill the proper football techniques in them. Coach Dent then began his coaching career at the recreational level at Chamberlayne Packers Youth Football in the Metro Youth Football League (MYFL) from 2008-11. In 2011, he become the Offensive and Defensive Line coach for Brookland Middle School. In 2012, Coach Dent made his jump to high school and became the Varsity Offensive Line coach at Henrico High School. In 2013, he became the JV Offensive and Defensive Line coach at Highland Springs High School. In 2014, he was promoted to the Varsity staff as the Offensive Line coach.
While at Highland Springs High School, Coach Dent was part of the staff that won five State Championships and one Runner-up State Championship. Coach Dent has also coached many offensive linemen that have gone on to play at various colleges such as Alderson Broadus, Virginia State, Virginia Union, Norfolk State, James Madison, Virginia Military Institute, and Louisville. He has had two former players reach the NFL level (Mekhi Becton and Mike Greene).
Under Coach Dent’s tenure, the Highland Springs offensive line has seen many high rushing yard seasons with last year being one of the best (3,000 rushing yards).
Kevin is married to Stacy with 3 boys: Jordan, Juwan, and Jerel.
