RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Union University men's basketball team will continue its postseason run as the Panthers have earned the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament and will face No. 2 seed West Liberty in the opening round on Saturday, March 14, in Erie, Pa.
Virginia Union enters the NCAA Tournament with a 24-5 overall record after a strong regular season and conference tournament performance. The Panthers will look to carry that momentum into regional play against a West Liberty squad that comes in with a 27-4 record.
The match up marks the second meeting between the two programs this season. Virginia Union defeated West Liberty 94-88 on November 18, 2025, in Richmond, Va., in an early-season contest that showcased the Panthers' ability to compete with one of the top teams in the region.
West Liberty, the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region and champions of the Mountain East Conference, has been one of the most consistent programs in NCAA Division II this season.
The first three rounds of the Atlantic Region NCAA Tournament will be played at top-seed Gannon University in Erie, Pa.
The winner of the game will advance to the Atlantic Region semifinal round as teams continue their quest for a berth in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
