VUU Dominates Shaw 59-7

DURHAM, N.C. — Virginia Union University's offense exploded for 611 total yards as the Panthers rolled past Shaw University 59-7 on Saturday, September 27, at Durham County Memorial Stadium.

The win improves VUU to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in CIAA play, while Shaw falls to 1-3, 1-1 in the conference.

Senior running back Curtis Allen led the Panthers with 216 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries, including a 65-yard score in the second quarter. VUU finished with 474 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns as a team.

Quarterback RJ Rosales completed 9 of 16 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown while also adding a one-yard rushing score. Freshman wideout Jahari Williams hauled in a 28-yard touchdown pass from Myles Derricott to cap the Panthers' scoring in the fourth quarter. Keon Davis also added a 19-yard touchdown reception.

Defensively, Virginia Union was dominant, recording six sacks and forcing two turnovers. Freshman cornerback Cortney Davis picked off a pass, while junior linebacker Brandan Cammarasana forced a fumble. Shaw was limited to just 265 yards of total offense.

Kicker Brady Myers was perfect on the day, connecting on a 25-yard field goal and all eight extra-point attempts.

"I was pleased with our performance today against Shaw University," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  "All phases of the game were clicking, and it was great to see so many guys get the opportunity to contribute. There are still areas we need to improve, but I truly appreciate the effort and dedication this team brings every day."

Virginia Union now travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Winston-Salem State University at 1 p.m. On Saturday, October 4.
