Virginia Union University's DJ Mitchell has been selected to play in the HBCU All-Star Dream Classic, to be held on Saturday, August 9, at Rucker Park in New York, N.Y.

Mitchell, a senior from Catonsville, Md., led VUU in scoring with a 13.2 point-per-game average in 2024-25.  He also led the Panthers with 56 three-pointers this past season.

"I'm really happy for DJ," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler.  "He was our leading scorer and one of the best players in the CIAA this year. I know he will represent the program and the conference very well in New York."

40 of the best HBCU Basketball players in the world will display their athletic abilities on the historic hallowed grounds of Rucker Park in Harlem, New York. The experience will be the merging of HBCU sports, education and traditions with Urban Streetball Culture. These exceptional athletes will represent the CIAA, MEAC, SIAC, SWAC, Gulf Coast, NAIA and independent conferences. Coaches, G-Leagues, European Leagues and Sports Agents will be in attendance.
