On Tuesday, February 4th, the Virginia Union University (VUU) women's basketball team secured their 15th victory of the season, defeating Virginia University of Lynchburg (VUL) by a score of 75-59 at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Virginia.
Double-Double Performances Lead the Way
The Panthers were led by standout performances from their key players, particularly
Taniyah Greene and
Maia Charles, both of whom recorded double-doubles. Greene, a force on both ends of the floor, finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Charles wasn't far behind, contributing 21 points and 13 rebounds to help propel VUU to victory.
Additionally,
Rori Cox added 16 points to the effort, while
Brittini Martin chipped in 10 points, rounding out a well-balanced offensive attack.
Coach Terry Reflects on the Team's Performance
Despite the win, Head Coach
Tierra Terry acknowledged the team's sluggish start, especially in the first half. "No disrespect to VUL, but we posted our own difficulties. We didn't have the right energy in the first half. We had moments where we had good energy, but we weren't prepared enough," said Coach Terry after the game. "I don't think it was actual game preparation, but we did not prepare good energy. Maybe we thought that since it was non-conference that we would take the game lightly. I don't know what we were thinking."
While Coach Terry expressed some concerns over the team's lack of focus, the Panthers showed resilience in the second half, securing the win despite the early challenges.
Next Game: Bluefield State University
Looking ahead, the VUU women's basketball team will travel to Bluefield, West Virginia, for their next contest against Bluefield State University on Saturday, February 8th, at 2:00 p.m. The Panthers will look to build on this victory as they continue their season.
