The Virginia Union University (VUU) women's basketball team strengthened its position at the top of the CIAA Northern Division with a hard-fought 60-48 win over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 1, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, VA. The victory pushes the Lady Panthers to an impressive 4-1 divisional record and 8-1 overall in the CIAA.
The standout player of the game was
Rori Cox, who delivered a stellar double-double performance, contributing 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Her dominant play was a key factor in VUU's success, particularly as the team struggled early on to find consistency from the three-point line.
"We knew Lincoln would be tough—they always bring their best game," said Head Coach
Tierra Terry. "This was an ugly one, but we made some critical adjustments at halftime. We had settled into a 4-for-15 pattern from the three-point line, and I didn't like that. I'm glad we figured out a way to get back inside and make things work."
The Lady Panthers remain undefeated at home, boasting a perfect 6-0 record in Barco-Stevens Hall, showcasing the strong support they have in front of their home crowd.
Next up, VUU will look to continue their momentum when they face Virginia-Lynchburg on Tuesday, February 4, at 5:30 p.m. at Barco-Stevens Hall. The team is poised to keep their strong record intact as they aim for continued success in the CIAA.
