RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Union University women's basketball team earned a commanding 88–48 non-conference victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg Monday evening at Barco-Stevens Hall. With the win, the Panthers improved to
7–1 on the season, while the Lady Panthers dropped to
0–8.
Virginia Union set the tone early with relentless defensive pressure, limiting VUL to just six points in the opening quarter while building a 22–6 advantage. The Panthers continued to control the tempo throughout the contest, taking a 47–20 lead into halftime and never looking back.
Virginia Union maintained its momentum in the second half with balanced scoring and efficient execution on both ends of the floor, outscoring VUL in both the third and fourth quarters to secure the 40-point victory.
Key Performers
Serenity Johnson led Virginia Union with 17 points in just 22 minutes of action.
Bruni Martinez recorded a strong all-around performance with 12 points and eight rebounds, while
Maya Robinson added 11 points on efficient shooting.
Ashley Gonzalez also finished in double figures with 11 points and dished out six assists to help orchestrate the Panthers' offense.
Virginia University of Lynchburg was led by DaNiy Warren McClure, who scored 17 points. Lovely Tua-Link added 14 points, including three three-pointers.

"It was a good overall game and a good collective effort tonight," said Virginia Union Head Women's Basketball Coach Alico Dunk. "We had some people come off the bench and give us some good minutes. Those were much-needed minutes because we've had some people injured and they stepped up really well."
Team Notes
Virginia Union shot 43.6 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range while holding VUL to 36.0 percent shooting. The Panthers controlled the game defensively, forcing turnovers and converting them into scoring opportunities, while also winning the rebounding battle and maintaining a double-digit lead in every quarter.
