Lady Panthers Pull Away in 2nd Half to Defeat Livingstone 75-49

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 13, 2025) — The Virginia Union University women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to secure a 75–49 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) victory over Livingstone College on Saturday afternoon at Barco-Stevens Hall.

The Panthers improved to 6–1 overall and 2–0 in CIAA play, while the Blue Bears dropped to 1–7 overall and 0–1 in conference action.

After taking a slim 30–27 lead into halftime, Virginia Union seized control of the contest by outscoring Livingstone 27–13 in the third quarter, creating separation that carried into the final period.

"I feel great that we got the win," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Alico Dunk. "We started off really, really slow, but we found a way to win in the second half. We had some people come off the bench who gave us a spark, which helped us extend our lead."

Serenity Johnson led the Panthers with a game-high 15 points, adding seven rebounds in the win. Maya Robinson turned in a strong all-around performance with 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Karimah Nix also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Bruni Martinez anchored the paint for VUU, recording eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds, as the Panthers controlled the boards and limited second-chance opportunities.

Virginia Union's defense set the tone throughout the afternoon, holding Livingstone to 30.5 percent shooting from the field and just 13.0 percent from three-point range. The Panthers capitalized on stops to fuel their transition offense and extend the margin in the second half.

Livingstone was led offensively by Nielle Reaves and Destiny Drakeford, who scored nine points apiece.
