Virginia Union University's
Brandy Roberts held Bluefield State University to just two hits and no runs as the Lady Panthers downed the Big Blue in the opening game of a double-header 4-0 on Saturday, April 13, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
Roberts struck out three and walked just one Bluefield State batter in seven innings of work.
Bluefield State defeated the Lady Panthers in the second game 14-4.
"In game 1, we came out very strong, played clean defense and capitalized on their mistakes," said VUU Head Softball Coach Domonique Mulero. "
Brandy Roberts pitched extremely well, locating the ball and hitting her spots. We had big hits from
Alaysia Miller and
Kallie Garland in big moments. In game two, we came out flat and gave up too many early runs. We struggled as a pitching staff hitting our spots. Today we left too many runners on base, and we were not smart on the base path. We have to be better disciplined at the plate and not swinging at balls that are out of the strike zone! We're going to regroup and get two wins tomorrow!"
VUU travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University in a double-header beginning 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.
